Volunteers needed for COMMUNITY TRUCK SURVEY!

Survey Dates: August 17 & 18, 7:00am to 7:00pm
WHAT is a community truck survey?
Community members will count trucks (and other traffic) on neighborhood streets where truck traffic
is a concern!
WHERE will be observe trucks?
First Survey Locations:
- Clark Park on Clark St. in front of Maybury School
- Fort St. at Springwells in front of All Saints Church
- Or you can observe from your front porch!
Want to observe more locations? We need your help! We hope to observe at least 6 or 7 locations by the end of September, but it depends
on how many volunteers we get. Please help us out and sign up for a 2-hour shift!
WHY observe trucks?
To find solutions! Trucks on residential streets and near schools affect safety, and
diesel emissions from trucks are harmful to health. We are observing trucks so we can advocate
for better truck routes and enforcement and to reduce harmful diesel pollution.
HOW will the survey be done?
Volunteers will count traffic for 2 hours at hot-spot locations identified in the
community and keep track with a simple tally sheet.
HOW we can help:
With your help, we can identify streets that should be truck-free and advocate
for better truck routes that have less of an impact on residential neighborhoods.

About Us
The Southwest Detroit Community Benefits Coalition is a community-initiated
organization with an elected community board that has been working on behalf of hundreds of residents
and other community stakeholders to identify the community's needs for mutually
beneficial development in exchange for hosting the
Detroit River International Crossing (DRIC) project. Southwest Detroit already hosts a number
of transportation projects and heavy industries. As a result, residents bear many negative environmental
burdens including heavy truck traffic, illegal dumping, and air and noise pollution.
The DRIC project has not adequately assessed specific impacts on the immediate
community or the cumulative impacts that will result fromadding another large
transportation development to the area. The DRIC project, with its $1.8 billion in
U.S. investment, could be a pivotal project to bring economic growth to the region
as well as redevelopment of the host community of Delray. Other successful projects
around the country have done this type of development with investments of 15% of
total project costs in the host communities, compared to the 01.2% that the DRIC proposes.
